Dakota Passage
International Technology Academy – Pontiac, MI
- Entered Harvard University, Fall of 2019.
- Valedictorian of his graduating class.
- Flawless GPA, National Honors Society member, and part-time General Motors Intern.
- Active member and leader of ITA’s FIRST Robotics since freshman year.
Jessica Vandermaas
Lakeview High School – St. Clair Shores, MI
- Excelled academically despite a hearing impairment and was one of her school’s most gifted writers.
- Featured multiple times in the local city newspaper. She annually has a story published in our local paper: The Macomb Daily.
- Editor-in-chief of high school newspaper.
- Entered Michigan State University, Fall of 2019.
Hannah Stiffler
Williamston High School – Williamston, MI
- Lost her mom unexpectedly to a heart problem her freshman year.
- Maintained a 3.8 GPA, member of the Nation Honor Society, earned 12 college credits her senior year.
- Maintained a job in high school and has been an outstanding role model to her younger sister.
- Entered Alma College, Fall of 2019.
LaJoya Brown
Carver STEM Academy – Detroit, MI
- The youngest recipient of our scholarship
- Graduated at the top of her middle school class.
- Volunteers to help students with lower grades improve their scores.
- Wants to become a personal assistant.
Thomas Strunk
Yale High School – Yale, MI
- Participates in numerous extra-curricular programs and earned four Varsity letters.
- Mentor in the PASS program, which allows him to act as a mentor to freshmen transitioning to high school.
- Member of the National Honor Society, Volunteers through a number of community service opportunities in the area, as well as through multiple mission trips with his church.
- Entered St. Claire Community College, Fall of 2019
Jade Bourne
Keller High School – Keller, TX
- Nationally-ranked debate team member with several local wins.
- Recognized by the National Speech and Debate Association as an All American.
- Received a prestigious award in Keller School district for social awareness
- Entered Howard University, Fall 2019
Jonathan Ortega
Thurgood Marshall High School – Fort Bend, TX
- Distinguished, reverential, honor-roll student.
- His teachers say he’s “the first person to raise his hand to volunteer.”
- Helped to support his family financially throughout high school. Worked with his father doing various skilled construction, plumbing, and electric jobs.
- Member of the Thurgood Marshall High School Band
Hazel Gerry
Evan E. Worthing High School – Houston, TX
- Growing up with limited stability, support and finances, Hazel pushes pass challenging obstacles.
- In absence of transportation, she walked more than 3 miles to take her SAT Test.
- Has taken on a parental role for her younger siblings insuring they don’t fall victim to the drug invested and gang populated neighborhood in which they reside.
- Distinguished scholar and a leader among her peers.
Dashawnna Daniels
Western International High School – Detroit, MI
- The first in her family to attend college.
- Entered Western Michigan University, Fall of 2019.
- Worked outside school to save for her college education.
- Completed an internship program at Quicken Loans. Aims to graduate with a major in business.
Nyah Phillips
John Glenn High School – Westland, MI
- Founder of the Annual Hygiene Drive and social movement at John Glenn High School.
- Alumni of the Distinguished Young Women program where she earned awards in fitness, interviews, and performance.
- Member of the STEP/dance team, Track & Field team, Female African American Scholars, Champions Program, and Girlz in Tune.
- Entered Michigan State University, Fall of 2019.
